Karely Munárriz's testimonial about the Master in International Business Management
School of Business Administration & Leadership
We are OBS
Karely Munárriz, Head of Brand and Marketing Communications at Telefónica - Movistar Mexico, shares her opinion as a student of the Master in International Business Management at OBS Business School.
Karely explains how the Master's has allowed her to develop new skills: "The Master's helped me to develop different skills, including being able to develop the area of communications from a different perspective, taking into account all the experience of the professors and the support of having colleagues from other countries, it helps you to work in a different way on communications campaigns".
Why did you decide to study this Master's degree?
I studied the Master in International Business Management out of an interest I have in continuing to develop myself within the digital ecosystem, within this world of technology that is advancing rapidly every day. I work in a telecommunications company, I am surrounded by this whole world of technology, but I really wanted; on the one hand, to formalise some knowledge, acquire new knowledge and continue to develop myself in this area.
Why did you choose to study it at OBS?
I was analysing many options on the Internet and I came to OBS Business School and it really caught my attention, the offer they had at the level of studies and everything related to what I had read at the level of professors, of a community that seemed very solid and very interesting. I think another thing that was very valuable for me was the study system. I was looking for something that adapted to me, to my reality, to my professional life and I think that all these characteristics, after evaluating several things, led me to choose OBS Business School.
What benefits does the online methodology has for you?
The online methodology seems to me to be the ideal way to study, obviously in my original professional career I studied in person, but then professional life takes away options of mobilisation, of time and I decided to try these studies. It was the first time that I studied online and I feel that it would be the way I want to continue studying and acquiring new knowledge day by day. Without a doubt, being in person is important, I think that connecting with classmates is very interesting, but it is so enriching to be able to study online, to share knowledge and experiences with people who are all over the world. I find that very valuable and powerful.
What skills have you developed throughout the programme?
Throughout the programme, one of the things that pushed me the most, that pushed me and that was a challenge for me, was to develop much more analytical skills. I originally studied Communication; that is to say, I come from more humanistic territories at the level of professional training and all this technology, it was also about making a little more effort and moving into more technical, more analytical territories and I think that was an area of opportunity that I had in my profession and that I definitely managed to begin to move into through the Master's programme.
How has your experience been at OBS?
My experience at OBS Business School has been really enriching and positive. I was very proud and honoured when I was invited to participate in a much more direct way in the development of the community. When I was offered to participate in the presidency of the Alumni Club of Mexico.
I really believe in the power of networking, in the power of creating meaningful relationships in your professional development and in your professional path and the Alumni Club seems to me to be a very interesting space to help create these communities in Mexico, where we can share experiences, share knowledge and even establish it as a space for help, for development, for sharing information in general. It has truly been a very interesting and positive experience for me and one that I would repeat many times.
How do you imagine your professional future after your programme?
I would say that the professional future, mine and I think everyone's, is one of constant movement, of continuous learning. I think it is about understanding this present as a series of challenges that you have to face, asking yourself questions and that these questions lead to the need to acquire new knowledge in order to finally move towards what we call the future. I prefer to think more about today, about the present, about how to train yourself to face the current challenges and that each time this gives you the possibility of facing what is to come and being increasingly prepared for it.
What would you say to a person considering studying at OBS?
Through social networks I receive many questions from people who are looking to evaluate different options to study a master's degree and among them they are evaluating OBS Business School. And I specifically highlight certain topics:
I think there is a great versatility because of the way you study online, because of the kind of study tools we have available and it's definitely very powerful because it adapts to your needs. You don't have to transform your professional life to be able to achieve the goal of studying a master's degree, but you have like tools that allow you to adapt that new challenge, that new goal to your new professional life.
On the other hand, something that I think is very relevant and that I always emphasise is that you connect with teachers who are clearly experienced, who practice the subject they are talking about.
I think there is a variety, a very interesting range of subjects, of fields of study.
They have great strength at the level of different countries and that means that the study groups are diverse, they bring economic, political and social perspectives that are different from yours, business realities that enrich your own perspective so that you leave a Master's degree not only with technical, specific knowledge, but with an experience, a broader perspective that you acquire through this relationship with people from different countries.
